Alcon to present a dozen scientific presentations on unique water surface contact lens technologies at # Academy21

Alcon, the global leader in eye care dedicated to helping people see brilliantly, will present a strong scientific program with a dozen accepted abstracts on the company’s unique and permanent water-surface contact lens technologies at the meeting of the American Academy of Optometry (# Academy21) in Boston, MA, November 3-6, 2021. Data on Alcon’s proprietary water surface technologies includes clinical efficacy of TOTAL30® monthly replacement contact lenses, PRECISION1® and PRECISION1® for day contact lenses for astigmatism and DAILIES TOTAL1® daily disposable contact lenses.

“We are excited to share scientific and clinical updates at # Academy21 for Alcon’s water-surface contact lens technologies that continue to show essential practices and patient benefits,” said Dr. Mohinder Merchea, OD, PhD, MBA, Global Medical Affairs Strategy and Publications. at Alcon. “These results underscore why Alcon’s water surface technologies have been recognized by eyecare professionals as being in a class of their own, going beyond just silicone hydrogel.” Additionally, permanent contact lenses with a water surface have been recognized as a separate lens category in the Tyler’s Quarterly.

TOTAL30 Monthly Replacement Contact Lenses Demonstrate Clinical Performance, Comfort and Antimicrobial Effectiveness

New clinical studies presented at # Academy21 on TOTAL30, a new monthly silicone hydrogel water gradient contact lens, evaluate its clinical performance and the antimicrobial efficacy of five contact lens care products used with TOTAL30. DAILIES TOTAL1 offers wearer benefits after weekly and monthly lens refitting

A single-center prospective study evaluated the course of ocular redness when DAILIES TOTAL1 is reinstalled on reusable contact lens wearers for two or four weeks. The researchers concluded that DAILIES TOTAL1 offered benefits to wearers of reusable lenses in the form of reduced limbal redness and increased wearing comfort. These results will be featured in a poster titled “Change in Objective Ocular Redness and Symptoms After Refit of Two-Weekly and Monthly Lenses into a Water-Gradient Daily Disposable Lens Material” on November 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET.

All paper and poster presentations will be available at the start of # Academy21 and will remain available until November 6.
