Don’t expect Gary Lineker to make an appearance as a presenter on Good Morning Britain anytime soon, as the former footballer has politely explained why he would turn down the job.

After Piers Morgan left the ITV daytime show six months ago, the program welcomed a group of guest stars as a co-host, including Martin Lewis who made an appearance last week.

Adil Ray and Richard Madeley have also joined the series alongside recurring regular stars Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway.

Addressed exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Gary gave a pretty understandable reason why fans won’t see him at the stand.

“I don’t work until nine, I had to have three coffees just to talk to you,” he said. ‘No, no, no thanks.’

And it’s not just Good Morning Britain that Gary will decline, just like Strictly Come Dancing.

“I have a job on Saturdays so I think the BBC knows I’m busy on Saturday nights,” he said, of course referring to Match Of The Day, which he has been presenting for nearly 22 years.

“I don’t think they’re going to knock on my door,” Gary continued. If they did, I would politely tell them “go”.

“It would be my worst nightmare. I would spend all of my time searching the dance floor in search of my comfort zone.

One thing Gary won’t be looking for anytime soon are his glasses, as the star today released Vision Express’s new Varifocals Edit, demonstrating how everyday moments can be simplified with both style and sophistication.

“I don’t constantly try to find several pairs of glasses around the house,” he said of the campaign. ‘It simplifies things and keeps me from being late.

“And, since they combine two prescriptions into one lens, that means I can just wear one set to see any distance with no midline no matter what the occasion, so it’s just less effort and less stress.

“More time to think and do more of the things I love, rather than wasting time thinking about the unnecessary.”

He continued, “The same goes for my sunglasses. There have been times in the past where I have resorted to a pair of sunglasses over my reading glasses, so ridiculous.

“Now I have everything I need in one pair, so whether I’m looking at the boats in the sea from a distance or looking at the menu, there’s no need to change. “

Gary Lineker’s latest Vision Express campaign shows how you can simplify complicated everyday moments with both style and sophistication. The new Varifocals Edit, featuring six pairs of glasses handpicked by Gary himself, is available online and in stores starting September 15.
