Kate wrote in the caption: “Ouch! But thanks to the brilliant team @nhs @moorfieldsuae not permanent. ‘

“Inflamed cornea probably caused by wearing my contact lenses too long for very long days recently. Hence the glasses on @gmb Friday. ‘

“And to think that I almost didn’t have it checked because I wanted to go home to do physiotherapy with Derek.”

She then implored her followers who are caregivers like her to make sure they always take care of themselves.

“An added reminder if you are a caregiver, parent or someone else, sometimes you have to put yourself first or else you are of no use to anyone you are trying to help.

’48 hours of dripping every hour day AND night and I’ll be back on track. Hope everyone has a nice #sunday ‘

The injury is another in a long line of issues Kate went through over the past year as her husband Derek continues to suffer from complications after having Covid-19.

He spent the last year in intensive care before returning home and is still unable to function independently.

Kate won the National Television Award for Authored Documentary last month for her work on Finding Derek, which documented her ordeal.

She revealed that there will be a sequel to the show, which offered a raw tale of the family’s journey during their hospital stay.

She told The Sun: “We’re going to do another documentary, there are plans for more.

“Derek has a very short energy window, but we’re tied. He’s been home for four months now and that was enough to get him home.

“Now we really hope more and more people can see it.”
