Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer hit the dance floor in Puerto Rico on Friday night to celebrate Democrats’ long-awaited vote on infrastructure – but ditched his face mask, despite strict local rules that require them.
Schumer has been spotted try merengue with city council member Carlina Rivera (D-East Village) – also without a mask – and cut a carpet with another unidentified woman at the annual SOMOS conference in the Caribbean territory, where a no-exception public mask mandate remains in place.
The mighty Dem, clad in chinos and a white button-down shirt, kept his reading glasses perched on his nose as he gestured with his exuberant partners at a party that appeared to be taking place in a hall. conference room.
“Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his friends are clearly in violation of Puerto Rico’s house mask mandate,” Carlos Berríos Polanco tweeted, a Puerto Rican journalist. “His dancing sucks too.”
The conference is packed with New York City figures including Governor Kathy Hochul, lame mayor Bill de Blasio, mayor-elect Eric Adams and many more – all of whom seem to be completely ignorant of local pandemic regulations.
Schumer is the latest in a long line of politicians – including President Joe Biden and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot – who have been caught violating strict pandemic mandates that they defended.
“But my kids haven’t had the chance to have a homecoming dance this year,” mom Shannon Gamber files a complaint on Twitter.
The senator is fully vaccinated, has received a booster and is regularly tested for COVID, his office said.
