ScottishPower is one of the UK’s six major energy providers, responsible for supplying UK gas and electricity to over five million customers. ScottishPower is part of the Iberdola Group, a global leader in wind power and one of the world’s largest energy companies.

ScottishPower and Tonik Energy

ScottishPower was appointed by energy regulator Ofgem to take over customers from Tonik Energy when the supplier went out of business. The 150,000 Tonik Energy customers were transferred to ScottishPower tariffs from October 2020.

ScottishPower and extra energy

ScottishPower took over Extra Energy’s customers when the small supplier ceased operations in November 2018. Extra Energy’s 108,000 home energy customers were subject to ScottishPower’s tariffs as part of the takeover.

ScottishPower and Yorkshire Energy

ScottishPower has been appointed as a new supplier to customers of Yorkshire Energy, which ceased operations in December 2020. Yorkshire Energy’s 74,000 customers were automatically transferred to ScottishPower’s tariffs.

ScottishPower’s charitable support

ScottishPower has had a relationship with Cancer Research in the UK since 2012. Through employee fundraising, their Help Beat Cancer energy pricing, sponsorship of the Race for Life and Stand Up To Cancer campaigns, they have raised over 20 million pounds for the charity. .

How ScottishPower’s prices changed in 2021

Like most energy providers operating in the UK, ScottishPower is subject to Ofgem’s energy price cap. The cap sets the maximum rate that can be charged for ScottishPower’s standard rate.

In March 2021, ScottishPower’s prices were increased by 9% on the supplier’s standard variable rate in line with the new price cap rate announced by Ofgem. The price increase will take effect on April 1, 2021 and will only affect ScottishPower standard rate customers. Prices for this plan will increase to £ 1,138 per year for average use, a price increase of around £ 96 per year.

Based on an average energy consumer on a standard bi-fuel tariff, paying on receipt of invoice, with invoice amounts averaged across all regions.

Previous ScottishPower price changes

In August 2020, ScottishPower announced that it would reduce the average price of its standard variable tariff by 7% effective October 1, 2020. This price cut was in line with the revised energy price cap and reduced the average cost a standard variable rate for ScottishPower customers of £ 84 per year.

In March 2020, ScottishPower’s prices were reduced by 1% off the supplier’s standard variable rate, effective April 1. Once again, the reduction was in line with the reduction announced in February 2020.

In August 2019, ScottishPower’s prices fell an average of £ 76 per year (6%) on its standard variable rate, also in response to a drop in the price cap rate.

In February 2019, ScottishPower became the fifth of the six major energy providers to announce a price hike in response to the change in price caps at the time.

As of April 1, 2019, ScottishPower’s Standard Variable Tariff rates have increased by £ 117 (10%), in line with the increase in the energy price cap of £ 1,254 per year.

In April 2018 ScottishPower’s prices were increased by 5.5% for customers of its Standard Variable Price Plan, effective June 1, 2018. The change resulted in an increase in costs of £ 63 per year on average.

ScottishPower renewable energy

ScottishPower’s tariffs all include 100% green electricity, using wind power and smart grids. It sold its gas plants and shut down its coal-fired power plants, while taking steps to reduce its overall carbon footprint where possible.
